Windows Update Page Cannot be Displayed

Problem

when you visit Microsoft Update site (http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com) or even the main Microsoft.com website, you get a page cannot be displayed error message. According to the Forums alot of people have had this problem and it effects both IE and Firefox and probably other browsers.

Cause

This problem is caused by the TDSS Rootkit which prevents the Windows Update page from being displayed.

Resolution

Kaspersky have published a removal tool built for the purpose of removing the TDSS Rootkit which is the cause of this Windows Update page cannot be displayed problem. You can download it here: http://support.kaspersky.com/viruses/solutions?qid=208280684.
